We decided to take a little road trip while we’re in the States, so yesterday we drove down to Washington D.C. I had never been here before and I really wanted to see the famous sights, like the White House, the Lincoln memorial, the Washington monument etc. so after about a 3 hour drive here we are! We’re staying in a very central hotel so last night we took a walk around to see some of the sights lit up at night.

We also visited the Museum of American History yesterday but I didn’t take any photos in there.
Today was the only full day we have in Washington so we decided to do a hop on hop off bus tour around the monuments, and it was brilliant. We went around completely once and then got off at the best spots.

It was pretty cool seeing all these buildings in the flesh so to speak, when you’ve only ever seen them before on tv!

One monument that I thought was particularly interesting and moving was the Korean War memorial. It features 18 stainless steel statues of soldiers making their way through an open space. We listened to a talk by one of the Rangers there who explained the symbolism behind the layout, shape and the numbers of the monument. If we had more time I would definitely have loved to hear these talks about the other monuments too, but you really need to spend LOTS of time here!

Tomorrow evening we head back to New York for 1 more day until we fly home on Sunday night.
